About Pakhro Entry Gate

Finally, the demands of the Kotdwar people paid off as the two new entry gates on the Garhwal side of Uttarakhand have been constructed to access Jim Corbett National Park. Out of the two, one gate is located on the Pakhro side and the other at Sendikal Ratwadhang in the Kotdwar region of Pauri Garhwal District. This step provides the visitors of the national park to explore the Pauri Garhwal parts of Uttarakhand thus, ultimately boosting the tourism and economy of this division. The new entry gates to Corbett and Tiger Reserve were inaugurated on 27th November, 2017 in the presence of the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat. It has to be noted that in order to make tourists’ visit fruitful, ecotourism circuits in Jim Corbett National Park are also being developed where a number of forest guest houses are built under every circuit. Six safari vehicles were also flagged off during the inauguration by state’s CM. Besides, the operation of safari vehicles into the national park from Kotdwar will ultimately help attract tourists to these parts of Garhwal. The Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarkhand will now get two new entry gates for visitors, which will be on the Garhwal side of the park.

Announcing this at a press conference in Dehradun yesterday, Uttarakhand Forest Minister Harak Singh Rawat disclosed that the first gate would be at Pakhro, the other gate at Sendhikhal Ratwadhang in the Kotdwar region of Pauri Garhwal district.

The opening ceremony for the opening of the two new entry gates will take place on November 27 in the presence of the Chief Minister. Harak Singh Rawat asserted that the opening of the entry gates from Kotdwar side of the Corbett park would boost the economy of Kotdwar.

“It has been a long-standing demand of the people of Kotdwar for opening of the gates of the park from the Kotdwar side. It was strange that while two thirds of the Corbett park is in Pauri Garhwal district but still there were no entry gates for the park in Kotdwar, that falls in Pauri Garhwal district. Finally, the demand has been fulfilled”, Harak Singh pointed out. He also added that wildlife safari would also be started from the Kotdwar gates.

He also held that his ministry was laying emphasis on eco-tourism and asserted that eco-tourism was meant to develop and promote environmentally sustainable, economically viable and socially and culturally responsible tourism in Uttarakhand. He said the Ecotourism Development Corporation of Uttarakhand that came into existence from March 2017 was focusing on ecotourism.

Harak Singh Rawat also asserted that the Forest Rest House-based ecotourism circuits were being developed in Uttarakhand. Under each circuit, a number of forest rest houses will be taken up. “Necessary infrastructure development will be made in and around these forest rest houses while promoting nearby places of tourist attraction. The main aim is to promote ecologically and culturally sustainable tourism while also augmenting tourism based livelihoods for local communities”, he added.

All the procedures of safari booking inside corbett park and stay inside the dhikala and other forest rest house lodge are managed through automated computerized system to ensure the equal distribution of tourists by the forest department and difficult to influence. Availability of zones, Jeeps, jeep driver and the naturalist guide are also registered with park authorities.
